Picture yourself on my deck in a lounge chair,

With fat zucchini, and red t'maters.

Some critter barks loud, you look up quite slowly,

A dog with a dirty tater.

Juicy mush melons of yellow and green,

Rolling right under your hoe.

Look for the dog with the dirt on her snout

And she's gone.

Follow her down to a creek by the pasture,

Where Uncle Booger drinks beer and eats banana moon pies.

'Ol Booger winks as you step past the cow patties

That attract so many green flies.

Bubba's red tractor pulls up from the briars,

Waiting to take you away.

Lean on the seat with your butt hangin' out,

And you're gone.

Suddenly something is there at the bumper,

The dog with a dirty tater.

The inspiration for this, ah, thought-provoking piece came the other day when I was sitting on my deck in a lounge chair and my neighbor's dog, Lucy, walked to my garden and began digging. ~Angela
