Ask Uncle Ralph May-5, 2002
Dear Uncle Ralph, Recently, my sister has been dating a boy from a nearby city. Is there anything I can do to help here to see the error of her ways?
Rodney.
Rodney, I almost always recommend dating outside the family. So I applaud your sister in at least trying.
You don't mention which city or state your from. This can make a difference. If, for example, your sister is dating someone from any east or west coast cities, then you need to take action as soon as possible and drag her back to the trailer park if you need to. She'll never fit in and may doom herself to a lifetime of "suburban" living. Pretty lawns, sidewalks and dishwashing machines. I can't imagine a proper woman living such a life. If you love your sister then protect her from it.
But on the other hand if the boy is from any city in Ohio or Michigan, then in most cases it is perfectly acceptable. Anybody that would willingly call themselves "Buckeyes" are my kind of kin. Just remember that state law requires your sister to have turned at least 16 before she marries. If she is not 16 yet, just be sure to let your daddy know where she moved to.
Uncle Ralph
